The Stockwood Scrolls
Sildar Hallwinter, known to some as “Gus”, is a 50 year old human ex-soldier who in his glory days once fought in Waterdeep‘s Griffon Cavalry. His service and loyalty were recognized and he was granted a large estate and noble title after his retirement from active duty. He later entered into the Lords’ Alliance as an agent and scout for that organization. He came to Neverwinter with Lord Dagult Neverember to reestablish law in the city some years ago.
On the disappearance of the wizard Iarno Albrek, a member of the Lords’ Alliance who had been assigned to oversee the organization’s work in the frontier town of Phandalin, Sildar was sent to investigate. Accompanying the shield dwarf Gundren Rockseeker, he found himself ambushed by goblins seeking the dwarf. He was rescued from being sold into slavery by the goblins by the adventurers Crag, Dug, Himophelia, and Zerok, who accompanied him safely to Phandalin. The same adventurers were also the ones to discover what had become of Iarno Albrek – he had turned rogue and was running a gang from beneath the town under the alias “Glasstaff”. The adventurers turned him over to Sildar for questioning on behalf of the Lords’ Alliance. After extensive questioning using a “man from Neverwinter”, Sildar got the full tale out of Iarno. Sometime during this period Sildar was asked to become the Sheriff of the frontier town, a request Sildar agreed to.
The four adventurers later forced Sildar into marriage with Nilsa Dendrar, claiming that they would force her to marry Crag Gravelpit if he did not. Fearing for the girl due to Crag’s reputation, and seeing her own will to do whatever was necessary in order to win the right to slay Iarno Albrek, Sildar agreed to marry the girl, and the two were wed on the day of the Greengrass festival.
Since his rescue, tales have spread of “Gus” punching the head clean off a bugbear, a tale he is ever keen to recount, though he doesn’t remember it too clearly himself. He seems to have taken to the nickname.
