The Stockwood Scrolls
This tiefling warlock has seen many things, and has a tired, yet peaceful demeanour. Thirty years ago, in 1460 DR, he travelled to the Nine Hells with his companions, on a mission to rescue one of their friends. They were able to obtain a Baatorian warship and pilot it to Dis, at which point they made their way down through the layers into Stygia where their companions was being held. However, all of his companions were killed when they had almost achieved their goal, and Xan was the only one to escape.
Since then the warlock has taken up the ascetic life of a monk, mostly staying within the confines of his well maintained and quiet home in Waterdeep’s South Ward. However, even his home life has not been without sadness – his son was killed in 1469 DR by members of the Cult of the Dragon, a fact Xan has tried to bear with grace.
In 1490 DR, Master Xan was visited by the Heroes of Skyreach, who were seeking knowledge about travelling to the Hells for their own reasons. He shared these relatively openly, as well as his knowledge about the different archdevils and the layers of the Hells. When Glinda appealed to the fact that he had lost his son to the Cult, the very organization that they were fighting, Xan agreed to aid them, and even travel with them to Avernus if they so wished. Ultimately however, the Heroes decided to not travel to the Hells at all.
